My name is Thomas Masseck and I live in a small town called Ronneby in the southeast corner of Sweden, with my wife, Camilla, and three children, Joel, Anton ochTove.
The word "walkabout" has been my own expression for nature walks since my two trips around the world in the 80´ties. Those are my longest walkabouts this far. The first walkabout lasted for 12 months with half of the time around in Australia with a backpack as my home. The second one, with my future wife Camilla, lasted 6 months. Those trips have affected the rest of my life and thinking in many ways.
Today my walks lasts mostly only for a couple of hours.
I have always been drawn to nature, as a kind of meditation or source from which I can fill up new strength and energy. My interests in nature of course includes its inhabitants as birds, animals, plants and flowers.
When I´m out on my walkabouts there seems to be no problems and I can enjoy and appreciate life to the fullest. The problems that do appear are more of a survival or practical kind. They have to be solved right away and give no bad conscience.
Most of the times I make my walkabouts alone, by foot or kayak. It gives me time to think and reflect about life and my being. That is very important to me since my work is mentally stressful and exhausting. I need a valve to open up occasionally.
My favourite places for walkabouts are situated along the shoreline of Blekinge, a small province at the southeast of Sweden. We have here a most beautiful and varied nature and archipelago.
My photo interest started early as well. I bought my first SLR-camera, a Canon AE1 in 1978. I have always been the one among my friends that carries a camera for documentation.
Today I use a Nikon D7000 with 70-300 and 18-105 lenses.

WALKABOUT - A spontaneous journey through the wilderness of one's choosing in an effort to satisfy one's itchy feet, a need to be elsewhere, the craving for the open road, that space over the horizon...yes... something like that... you can't quite touch it so you have to go find it because it's you just know it's there...Or maybe it just feels good to go walking around ... (Crocodile Dundee)
